Knox Views has the scoop on voting problems across the state.

In the first major election since Republicans took control of the Secretary of State’s office, which includes the Division of Elections, there were voting problems reported across the state. Most appear to involve denying voters a ballot because of errors in election system databases.

First reports came out of Shelby County. There was a similar case here in East Tennessee in Sevier County.

The election has not been certified in Weakley County at this point either. The county doesn’t believe it will be able to certify election results until next week sometime.

The county has until the 23rd of this month to certify.

The one place that every American person has equal footing is in a voting booth. Rich, poor, white, black, gay straight … you get the picture.  Stories of voters saying they were turned away is serious business.  People make mistakes, as R. Neal said but some election offices had apparently drank a can of Incompetence Builder for breakfast on the morning of August 5.

The issue right now is voter confidence. And they aren’t confident, so these stories coming from around the state does make one wonder what the heck the Secretary of State is doing to rectify the situation.
