Happy Hour – The Impact of the 14th and Prop 8

US Constitution

I wrote on Monday about the Republican attack on the 14th Amendment. It seems that now the GOP has another reason, other than immigration, to paint a target on the back of the 14th Amendment.

According to the Huffington Post and other media outlets, a Federal judge has ruled that California’s Prop 8, which banned marriage between same sex couples, is unconstitutional. The grounds for this decision were equal protection and due process, hallmarks of the 14th Amendment.

There are a lot of reasons that Republicans want the 14th outta here, but this is just another one. Of course, not everything’s all rosy with the 14th, it also was the foundation upon which Corporate Personhood was established. I wonder how the GOP would feel about losing that?

In any case, congratulations California Gays, you’ve won a huge victory. I’m sure this will end up in court again and make it to the SCOTUS before it’s all said and done.

This calls for a celebratory drink. It’s Happy Hour!
