I would like to add...

There's not as much motivation to vote in the Dem primaries. Who's running against McWherter? Do I care which Democrat is my county commissioner? Hardly. Mike Clark is the only Dem vying for Phil Roe's seat.

On the other cheek, Republicans have to choose between regulars, teabaggers, semi-teabaggers, moderates...

More headaches for them.

Having come up voting in a state where you USED to have to declare your primary ballot choice at the time of registration, I've always found the crossovers in primaries, amusing. I hope your analysis of early voting is right. I'd hate to think Dems were just being lazy.

Here locally (TN-1) Ramsey is exit-polling last in the Pig Primary.
If he polls last here, he likely polls last everywhere. Ramsey's loss would be a fatal blow to the Teabaggers and that can only be considered a very good thing.

Wamp is verifiably dirty, and stupid, enough for McWherter to have a chance against if we (tn bloggers) back him up effectively. Haslam would probably defeat McWherter hands down.

But...

With the exception of a Whig or two, and a small handful of Repigs, Tennessee has historically leaned Democratic when it comes to Governors.

If it's Haslam, that sucks. But at least the worst case scenario will have been avoided. A Tea Bag Traitor in the Governor's mansion.

Voting for a Republican in the current political climate is like shooting your self in the foot. Granted, there is little to feel good about with McWherter, but if anyone thinks they can "game" the outcome of the Republican race and come out with a moderate, well...keep passing teh crack pipe!
