How Can Rep. Mike Turner Tell?

July 13, 2010

In a report from the Tennessean, Rep. Mike Turner says that he thinks undocumented immigrants are working on the Music City Convention Center.

The issue is how can he tell? In Sean Braisted and Tiny Cat Pants’ posts they ask this question as well.

This is the problem I have with the Arizona Law. If you look at someone and automatically categorize them without some sort of proof that is profiling.

Welcome to the world of the wedge issue. Turner may be proven right, I just hope next time something like this happens he has some proof of his allegations and not just a “hunch” before it heads to the mainstream media’s hungry and waiting embrace because no crime has been committed thus far.

I hope that all the workers there are legal, then I want to see his press release afterward.

[...] Mack isn’t happy with Mike Turner anymore than we were. [...]

Tennessean reported today that he “heard them speaking Spanish,” and that’s where his brilliant little mind got it from. Well dios mio, I guess I’m here illegally too!
This is a classic example of racial profiling and I am so ashamed that it is coming from the House Dem Caucus Chair. I am very afraid of what is coming up in the next legislative season, and I am worried for the workers on the convention center site because the illustrious representative has put them in danger with his ignorant comments.
