We wrote last week about the valiant struggle that Katie Allison Granju’s family has been fighting for the last month. Her beloved son passed away last night. There are no words of comfort we can give, but Michael Silence wrote this beautiful piece earlier today. Here at Speak to
Power, all we can say is that we will do what we can to make sure that Henry’s Legacy never ends. and we offer our love to these members of our Tennessee blogging family.
Katie’s words rise from the tragedy like a Phoenix, providing people throughout the world with a riveting and brutal first-hand account of the results of drug abuse.
We will never know the full impact of her profound diary of a drug death. But I think it’s safe to assume a life or two, maybe even more, will be saved by the insightful, exhaustive and exhausting words crafted from an unfathomable amount of pain and suffering.
Maybe there will never be a Henry’s Law or a widescreen Henry’s Story. But you can damn well bet they’ll be a Henry’s Legacy.
Our condolences go out to the family and friends of Henry Louis Granju. One way to help out the family was sent to us this morning from Shane Rhyne. I asked him if I could post his email to me which he gave us permission to do.
Trace,
As you are aware, Katie and her family are suffering through an unimaginable ordeal right now.
As if the pain of losing Henry weren’t enough, there are very real financial hurdles to be faced now, as well.
So many people have been asking what they can do to help. There is a simple and direct way to do so and I’m calling on you for assistance in getting the word out however you see fit. With some coordinated effort in the online community, we can at least try to make one aspect of this horrible time easier to manage for the family and give everyone a sense of having helped in a constructive and real way.
Ackermann PR wants to set up a fund to help defray some of the family’s expenses. On the advice of our company bank, this is the best way to handle it.
- Simply write a check made out to Katie Allison Granju.
- Mail it to:
Crystal Cardwell
c/o Ackermann PR
1111 Northshore Drive, Suite N-400
Knoxville, TN 37919
We’ll handle it from there and deposit the funds raised into an account for the family.
Please pass this along to everyone you can. Katie has inspired us all with how she has dealt with this tragedy. Let’s see what we can do to help make things just a tiny bit easier for her.
And keep praying for them all as well. I know Katie and her family felt a lot of love and support the past few weeks and believe it helped her.
Thanks,
Shane

The check thing is certainly kind – it would be nice if they would set up a PayPal account though.
I’m sure there will be many outside of the US who would like to be able to help and will not be able to because they can’t send a check.
And if tracking/tax records etc is a concern, that stuff’s easily trackable in PayPal.
Just a thought.
