With just under a month before early voting begins for the August election, campaigns are ramping up and getting organized. This means a lot of fundraising events and appearances will be popping up here and there.
As Jackson Baker reported, former Memphis Mayor and candidate in the 9th District Democratic Primary Willie Herenton held an event just last night, even if it was actually in the 7th District.
But don’t be too sad if you missed that one. There are plenty more coming up in the next few days.
Shelby County Commissioner Steve Mulroy is having a fundraiser tonight from 5-7 at the IBEW Hall on 1870 Madison. Suggested donation, $50.
On Saturday, Congressman Steve Cohen opens his satellite headquarters from 1-3pm at 4078 Elvis Presley Boulevard in Whitehaven Plaza.
Also on Saturday, a fundraiser for the Shelby County Coordinated Campaign will be held at the home of Lexie Carter, 2872 Tumbridge Cove, Memphis, TN 38128 starting at 3pm. This fundraiser benefits all Democratic candidates in Shelby County. Suggested donation, $25.
If your social calendar for this weekend is already full, have no fear, there’s plenty to do to support Democratic candidates next week too.
Tired of Marsha Blackburn’s icy grip on the very gerrymandered 7th District? Why not come out and show some love for Democratic candidate Greg Rabidoux. On Friday June 25th from 6 to 8pm Bill Gillon and Adrienne Pakis-Gillon are hosting a fundraiser at their home, 2111 Prestwick in Germantown. Suggested Donation $50.
Finally, on Saturday the 26th, the Mac Daddy of them all, the Sidney Chism Community Picnic at 3657 Horn Lake Road from noon to 5pm. I went for the first time last year with Steffens and it was a hoot!
No matter what you do, take a moment to help our Democratic candidates win in the upcoming elections. You can even donate directly to the Shelby County Democratic Party at their site.
Ed Note: Got the date wrong on the Rabidoux fundraiser in the earlier version of the post. The correct date is in bold.

Yo, hoss, the Rabidoux fund raiser is JUNE 25th…
If the June is a success, maybe we’ll have a 2nd one to make Steve partially right. Won’t be able to do anything aout that Friday the 25th comment though.
