The City of Clarksville is requiring that individuals get building permits for flood repairs. From the Leaf Chronicle:
Under the city’s flood permit policy, contractors will be required to provide the city written estimates, a city and county business license and proof of insurance.
Building permits cost $15 for residences and commercial properties up to a certain size. Additional fees are tacked on beyond $1,000 worth of repairs.
The city is also offering to pay for electrical safety inspections, available through C & M Supply, 607 N. First St.
It’s understandable that the city would want to protect it’s people from shady contractors that are looking to exploit an already bad situation. At the same time, this is likely to slow down the rebuilding process.
Hopefully the process will be smooth and the rebuilding process will be quick.
