Morning Coffee – Budget Pie

Tennessee has to have a balanced budget. Pesky rules and constitutional amendments and such but it has to be done. Gov. Phil Bredesen and democrats are going to battle this week with the GOP. It’s like a big chess game and politics usually gets a bit nasty when the budget is being discussed.

Remember, it’s only pork when someone else gets the money. It’s a blessing and a gift when you get it. This is what happens with budgets.  Fish hatcheries remain in the budget while economic development and mental health funding are cut. Will be writing of this in detail in the coming days but the Dean has a breakdown you can peruse and see what’s getting cut and what isn’t in the GOP’s utopia budget which I say with a bit of snark and anxiety..

I think we are going to be screaming “FIGHT” a great deal in coming days.

Sigh.

Let’s get to the linkage.

I’m from Nasvhille and I try to keep up with what’s going on in the area thru local media and friends. I’m constantly disheartened when the Republicans carry on about cutting services and funds for “other people” – the refrain of “the government isn’t here to fix your mistakes”. Yet since the flood, everybody wants FEMA money. Do they not see the blatant hypocrisy in this attitude? I’m a leftist so I think the gov’t should help, but this is a topic these folks and I usually disagree on. The blogosphere and comments at the Tennessean.com website are so anti-gov’t and anti-Obama, so incredibly self-righteous. These state’s rights folks hate the feds and all they stand for with one breath, then complain that federal assistance is coming too slow in the next. And no mention of the poor or people of color who were hit harder than anyone….
