There has been a lot of discussion recently about panhandling in Memphis.
I would like to introduce you to Eric who is from Memphis. Take a bit of time to know the people behind the issue.
Also a reminder from the Facebook page about the Rally for H.O.P.E. scheduled for next week.

Outside City HallThe Center City Commission has sponsored new legislation to the Memphis City Council calling for the creation of a “No-Panhandling Zone” within the Downtown core. While this law is purported to be strictly concerning aggressive panhandling, in other cities where such laws have been passed they have resulted in the profiling of the homeless and in cases have been part of a push to move those in brutal poverty and suffering from pronounced addiction and mental health issues out of areas of affluence and privilege into surrounding areas which lack the resources to address the needs of those on the streets. There is also no call, mandate or any component for mental illness, medical aid, or substance abuse rehabilitation, nor does it address the fact that Memphis has no free shelter for the homeless and needs more supportive and affordable housing. We are asking you to join us as we oppose the criminalization of poverty, addiction and mental illness in the name of “Quality of Life” and join us as we work to for a solution that addresses the quality of life for all communities including those living on the streets of Memphis.
JOIN US ON TUESDAY APRIL 13th at 3:00pm at City Hall as we make our voices heard. Contact your churches, and your civic and neighborhood associations and invite them as well.
