The House Of Mews Needs Help

From a letter posted at A Field Guide To Urban Memphis:

Dear Friends of Mews,

To say that times are really difficult for The House of Mews right now would be an understatement. It saddens me to be sending this email, as most of you know that I try very hard not to inundate our Friends of Mews with email constantly. But financially, we are in a very weakened state due to the economy and I MUST have an emergency plan in place to make sure our kitties do not suffer.

Are there any of you out there who would be willing to TAKE IN JUST ONE KITTY in case the store should have to close??? We have approximately 95 cats who need homes-temporary foster or permanent. So we just need some volunteers to sign up to take ONE kitty in an emergency situation. I am continuing to cut any personal expenses of my own, including selling my home & furniture to help pay expenses for the store and just so the kitties have a home and the store can survive, I will be fine in a one room efficiency apartment . Please contact me if you are wanting a smaller home and would like to see my Zero Lot Line home. The last thing I want to do is close the store, I will do my very best to see that it does not happen and with our Friends of Mews help, maybe our store will live on to see its 15th Anniversary in October 2010 in Cooper-Young.

Thanks to all of you who have been our long time supporters, dedicated volunteers and even our new supporters. If it weren’t for you, The House of Mews would not have lasted 15 years and cared for and found homes for over 8,500 homeless cats. I am forever grateful for the many kindnesses of our friends.

Can anyone in the Memphis/Shelby County area give them a helping hand?

I just took the money I was going to use for Kennedy Day and gave it to the House of Mews. Lauren loved that place so much, I couldn’t do anything else. I hope everyone can help in some way or another, they are wonderful.

If I didn’t have six dogs in this house, three elderly who would freak out with a cat in the house, I would adopt. I hope that they get what they need.

    So very sad.
