Tea Partiers Threaten Steve Cohen on his Website

The Commercial Appeal is reporting that tonight Congressman Steve Cohen received threats on his campaign website:

U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen’s office will contact federal law enforcement authorities about a threat the campaign received through its Web site Monday night, a Cohen spokesman said.

What did it say?

Laced with expletives, the e-mail said, in part, “… If our tea parties had hoods, we would burn your ass on a cross on the White House front lawn.”

It is one thing to protest the Congressman, as was done earlier today at his office, but this is too much.  Law enforcement needs to find out who made this threat and shut this down now.  The Tea Party movement is on the verge of becoming the right-wing version of the Weather Underground.

That isn’t exactly a threat. “If we are KKK members like you say we’d be stringing you up” has an implied but we aren’t to it. Doesn’t seem to merit investigations. I’ve sang “Throw the Fords down the well” to the tune of “Throw the Jew Down the Well” and joked about throwing southern baptists to the lions for my entertainment before. Doesn’t mean I need the cops called on me. If the letter had said “If you don’t apologize we will burn crosses in your yard” it would be quite different.
