We have moved with the speed of light into Daylight Savings Time, where we crabbily move forward to give us another hour of light each day, however, it is really gray outside this morning so we just gave us another 60 minutes of Seasonal Affective Disorder.
I think the consensus is bring on spring. Not the teasing temporary version but the one that will stick around awhile so we can go to our parks.
Yes, terrible segue but bloggers have been talking parks lately so let’s look at those that are being written about so we will start off with that.
- Smart City Memphis is writing this morning about why parks pay off and yes I’m talking dollars. Betsy Phillips at Pith in the Wind has been reviewing parks in Nashville and the surrounding area giving an in depth look at where to go, dog-friendliness quotients and safety issues. Finally, the LeConte Lodge has a new blog where you can see some absolutely beautiful pictures from the Smokies and get timely hiking information
- Galaxie Carol talks science blogging.
- The Commercial Appeal is reporting some mean-spirited shenanigans in re: to Mayor AC Wharton who has been photochopped in a picture with Osama Bin Laden and Adolph Hitler.
- Southern Beale asks “Where was the media?” at the recent pro-health care protest?
- Chris Sanders at Grand Divisions updates us about what is happening in Virginia where political leaders use the word “quarantined” in a way that will make you cringe. I remind you of the famous poem from German pastor Martin Niemöller.
- Jason Tippett writes an editorial in the Jackson Sun about cuts at the paper and some of the positive action he’s taken as he’s one of those who is vacating his long-held cubicle. He also has a blog that we’ve linked to a few times called Deep Thoughts on Shallow Subjects. We wish him well in his new endeavors.
- Calling Sen. Andy Berke!! The Chrone Speaks is taking on Glenn Beckinstein for charging that Bruce Springsteen’s song “Born in the USA” is unamerican. You have got to be kidding me. Springsteen?
- Not seeing any newsers on the Coffee Party events in Tennessee yesterday. Dang Liberal media hiding this event on progressive change.
- Katie Allison Granju blogs about her family. Her 12-year-old son has decided to blog about what’s like to be blogged about by his mother. Of course it makes sense and he’s very astute and cool with it.
- Do you live in a broadband dead zone? Well here’s a way to tell the FCC about it at Roane Views.
- Finally, I didn’t think you could rewrite history, but apparently in Texas you can.
Now for a couple of STP site notes (no, not Stone Temple Pilots rather Speak To Power). First of all, we’ve been combing the state for new blogs that are not necessarily on the radar. If you know of progressive/liberal/Leftleaning blogs about the state that aren’t on our aggregator to the right of this entry, let us know about them. Also, if you have any tips, people you’d like to hear from or community events going on in Tennessee, let us know. We all work a day job, but this blog is about being heard so let us hear from you. We believe that we are all in this together.
Finally, a bit of business where you can follow us in different places including Twitter and Facebook. We are still new and a work-in-progress but it’s our goal to promote democratic unity, the different voices in the state and focusing on elected democrats as well as community leaders. Drop us a line at speaktopower at gmail dot com.
