The Dyersburg State Gazette brings the sad news:

It was announced today that Quebecor World Color would be shutting down by the first quarter of 2011.

Dyersburg/Dyer County Chamber President Allen Hester said he has been in touch with the plant manager Susan Dew about the closing, which would affect approximately 668 employees.”

We are deeply disappointed to hear the plant is going to close,” said Hester.

Dew was contacted and did confirm they were having employee meetings to inform them of the closing. She said the closing would be a phase down over a period of several months that should end by the first quarter of 2011.

In January, Quad/Graphics, Inc., the largest privately held printer in the U.S., and World Color Press Inc. “Worldcolor”, the second largest provider of print, digital and related services in the Americas, announced that their boards of directors had unanimously approved a definitive arrangement agreement whereby Quad/Graphics will acquire Worldcolor.

“Anytime you have a company that is being bought, there is a risk of something like this happening,” said Hester.
