Briley says his decision has “nothing to do with Chip Forrester,” though he added Thursday that he’s been concerned about the party’s direction.
Briley, who was an unsuccessful candidate for Nashville mayor in 2007, said running for the executive committee is a “way to stay involved.”
The executive committee is made up of one woman and one man from all 33 districts.
Forrester did not immediately return a message seeking comment.
