If there were a theme song to go for the race in the 77th district, it probably would be “Everything Old Is New Again.”

Rep. Judy Barker

Bill Sanderson is running again against Rep. Judy Barker. Although the news is still limited to a pretty flimsy press release in coverage in northwest Tennessee newspapers, constituents saw this same match-up occur two years ago. Sanderson, who lives in Newbern, is a businessman who owns a local furniture store.

Barker, based out of Union City, is a local attorney, has proven to be very active and outspoken about issues concerning the area, most recently the bill by Rep. Matthew Hill to make it a felony for state employees to work on the I-69 project. Most notably, in November of last year, Barker publicly decline a per diem hike for state legislators and opted to send the 8.1 percent increase back to Nashville.
